Independence Day is a very emotional day for patriots. Because we know our history, we know that this nation in which we live and the incredible blessings we enjoy are an anomaly. The history of mankind is a story punctuated with soul-crushing oppression, tyranny and arbitrary rule.
Within this bleak history, and even within the world today, the United States of America stands before the world as a beacon of liberty, a land John Winthrop described nearly four centuries ago in these famous words:
For we must consider that we shall be as a City upon a hill. The eyes of all people are upon us. Soe that if we shall deal falsely with our God in this work we have undertaken, and so cause him to withdraw his present help from us, we shall be made a story and a byword throughout the world.
As it has been since our founding, the eyes of all people continue to be upon us. Mankind watches our shining city, ever unsure whether this grand experiment with liberty will continue.
The people watching our nation today might be forgiven for coming to the conclusion that America's best days are behind her. Our national and state capitols are filled to their brims with the arrogant, corrupt and self-serving. The politicians win reelection by telling the people what they want to hear, and the people return the favor by sending them back to the halls of power. We are buried in debt to foreign nations, and yet we continue to further impoverish future generations for present luxury. As the rumors of impending economic collapse continue to be whispered, those with a sense of history may be forgiven for feeling an uncanny sense of deja vu. Those of us paying attention have a feeling that hard times are coming.
And yet, as dark as things may appear, each of us knows, deep in the heart, that our situation is not without hope. America has been through worse. In the brutal winter of 1777, General Washington's army at Valley Forge was all but ready to collapse--and would have, if not for George Washington's incredible leadership. Had the Continental Army fallen apart, America's dreams of independence would have collapsed with it.
And yet, America's best days were still ahead of her.
Less than a century later, Americans would set their bayonets against one another in a bloody conflict that literally tore our young nation apart. The bloody conflict at Gettysburg in July of 1863 cost nearly thirty thousand casualties on each side over the course of only two days. Before it was over, the Civil War would cost over half a million Americans their lives. The scars of the war are still healing.
And yet, America's best days were still ahead of her.
Within another century, a worldwide economic collapse would drag our nation down. Before we could get back on our feet, the Imperial Japanese would strike our navy at Pearl Harbor, dragging us into World War II. Hundreds of thousands would pay the ultimate price during that brutal war.
And yet again, America's best days were still ahead of her.
Today, we are facing challenges that rival our darkest hours, and yet, there is reason to hope. America, after all, is populated with Americans.

Almost 30% of the country does not know we declared independence from England. Parents: Teach your young of the greatness of the Declaration of Independence whose natural rights come from God and are the basis of our eternal need to fight for freedom against enemies outside and within. The schools are intentionally not teaching this. In your hands rests our future for if children do not learn of the evils of socialism and communism at school they cannot recognize what is happening daily to our country. Current events may cause despair, but we had our first neighborhood tea party in meeting in 75048, Friday. All 14 that RSVP-d came & in the pouring rain. They encouraged me and encouraged each other because we are not alone and we have many like minded individuals. The new round of speech regulations promoted under the title "DISCLOSE ACT" has passed the House and is now before the U.S. Senate. Senators Charles Schumer, Russ Feingold and Patrick Leahy claim the DISCLOSE ACT is necessary to counter the influence of "special interests" on the election process:
We are part of a group of senators fighting to rein in the increased influence of special interest money this decision will unleash and save our electoral process.
To combat the new, unregulated corporate influence over elections, we just unveiled the DISCLOSE Act -- because Democracy Is Strengthened by Casting Light On Spending in Elections.
But without your support, our legislation is never going to win the day -- we need to build support all around the country, and we need your help to do it.
As President Obama has said, the Supreme Court has given "a green light to a new stampede of special interest money."
But this decision doesn't just affect elections. It has the potential to change the very way we live in America.

Last week, the U.S. House of Representatives passed HR5175, also known as the Disclose Act, by a 219-206 vote. "Disclose," you see, is an acronym for "Democracy Is Strengthened by Casting Light on Spending in Elections."
The measure's author, Rep. Chris Van Hollen, D-Md., also happens to chair the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee - so you know that the bill has nothing to do with helping Democrats retain their seats. (Just kidding.)
Two Republicans voted for the measure, 36 Democrats voted against it. The bill now goes to the Senate, where it deserves to molder. This bill may have passed largely unnoticed, but if the Senate passes HR5175 as is, with its provision to activate the law in 30 days - conveniently in time for November's midterm elections but before the Federal Election Commission would have a chance to draft careful rules - voters should see this as a blatant attempt to rig the system...
"We don't really think the intent of the bill is to withstand scrutiny in the courts," said Jeff Patch of the Center for Competitive Politics.
No lie. Here's a more honest acronym for Disclose: Democrats Intend to Stifle Contrary Leanings with Selective Enforcement.

I think it is an attempt to disclose who votes for who there by having a list of who is agginst what the Socialist are for. It is also a way to control those in Unions through fear of voting their personal values, there by causing fear of retaliation to any members voteing contrary to what is expected by the Union Bosses. Freedom is indangered further. I hate this. It is awful trickery. Should we think of "treason"?

The problem with that being done is that too many of the younger generation are to busy having a party and pay no attention about the people running this country. We can'tdepend on our school system to educate them.

In principle, it sounds like a good idea until you continue to learn more and realize that it's just another attempt of the Democratic party to leverage the elections in their favor. I am sick of the unions and big special interest groups in this country thinking that they are above the law. I feel like I am watching the disappearance of every ideal and princilple that I have held dear to me my entire life. If the people in this country don't wake up and see the handwriting on the walls, I will see my country go from a democracy to a socialize, Marxist nation before the end of my generation. The current administration is bankrupting our nation and no one seems able to stop the process. My greatest saddness is for our children and grandchildren. My father was part of the "greatest generation" and our children and grandchildren will part of the "enslaved generation." This country needs to get on our knees and beg God to help us. That's our only hope now.

The Disclose Act is just a way to slow down or stop groups from campaigning against another party or bill etc without lots of pain. I sent emails to all Congressmen and to Conolly and Hutchins to VOTE NO NO NO! Stop the Disclose bill now. The Democrats never offer anything unless it will aid their agenda, and this is another example. We must impeach Obama and throw out the rest.
I would say that anything that the Democrats are trying to push through these days is suspecious! I'm against it for just that reason. The Senate needs to use their 60 votes to stop it and any other bill that's being rammed through by the Democrats in the House. At this point, I'm in favor of stopping any bill that the Democrats are trying to pass; they don't seem to want to consider anything the Republicans want to pass, so let's return the favor. I don't care if we do have a Congress that passes nothing...that's better than the alternative. November is not far off and hopefully the Republicans can take control of the House and the Senate!! How ironic is it that in the not so distant shadows of June 19, the first black US President wants to effectively abolish the First Amendment? I fear I will be telling my grandchildren someday very soon, "I remember when the US Constitution actually meant something." I am now hoping for change in November of 2010 and November of 2012, when elected representatives again begin looking out for the interests of the people they serve, and not their own interests. Having taken the Oath of Office myself, and having taken it seriously, it is clear to me that all too many of our elected officials - at all levels - have simply abandoned their Oath and their allegiance to the electorate.
I do not favor any bill that threatens a group expressing their view bycompelling them to reveal their supporters. After all, the Bill of Rights does guarentee free speach. It is obvious to me that the Disclose Act is a means for liberals to specifically limit opposing views in terms of time bought as identifying sources of funding will cost as well.This a way of them applying a restriction that they themselves aren't required to endure. This is a nonessential piece of legislation that will also cost tax dollars and is another useless spending excuse devised by Democrats!

I really do not understand our ooposition to this bill. If we agree with the message, we should not be ashamed to put our name(s) on it. Corporate power is not something I think we consider a grassroots influence. Corporations and lobbying groups/PACs are not individual and should not have the rights of individuals. This act forces CEOs and other groups, religious groups and such, to take responsibility for their activities. I thought we were standing for responsiblity and down to earth, real people, not just those who have or can gather money.

Likely the biggest decision to be made this weekend by delegates to the State Convention of the Republican Party of Texas is the selection of the State Party Chair. As most of you are likely aware, there are three candidates running for the position:

We need someone who is ready to hit the ground running with passion, can motivate the players to work hard to get candidates elected, and who will hold steady to our principles through adversity. Who is that?
STEVE MUNISTERI is that person! He has personally called each delegate and talked to them or left a msg. He knows how to organize. Besides his degree in law, he also has a finance degree. That knowledge is sorely lacking in the RPT. Hope you will attend his reception at the Convention - open to all del. & alt.
Just wanted to add my whole-hearted endorsement of Cathie Adams. Having worked with her for many years as a journalist, and observing her tireless work for conservatives issues and causes over the years, I know Cathie is the best choice. She's not only been active in Dallas area and Texas conservative issues, but also has been active nationally in standing up for and promoting the conservative values and issues, in the face of sometimes fierce opposition. She stands her conservative ground. I've even known her to travel to places like the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland -- on her own dime -- both to help represent conservative American ideas and perspectives and to report back to local and national audiences about what's going on in the rather "under-the-radar" halls of world economic power. She's a Godsend and a treasure who should not only be appreciated but also utilized as she once again offers herself for service for the public good.
The press release just sent out by Cathie Adams has at least FIVE people who have NOT endorsed her campaign and who have not even been contacted. Cathie Adams has lied in the past also about not endorsing candidates once she was the RPT chair. She cannot be trusted to tell the truth and has not been shown to be a good administrator. She is in way over her head.
Cathie has a history of putting people on her endorsement list. She had Debra Medina on her list when she ran for RNC Woman last time and Debra and I both asked them to stop handing out the flyers with her name on it. The response was "We printed out 5000 of them, so we'll change it when we run out."
As Linda Sue eluded, Cathie was on stage at the Perry/Palin Rally in Houston during the Primary. I'm not sure she "endorsed" Perry, but she came close.

Maybe I'm too new to the whole Texas GPO system, but how does one get nominated to run for Party Chair? And who "selected" these three people? And why isn't there anyone who is demanding the party institute the basic Tea Party "pledge" for any GOP candidates. I'd like to see Debra Medina win this Chairmenship so we can take back our party.

I'm a one year old DTP newcomer to this political scene and learning fast of the political processes in our great State and Nation. The DTP's Grand Old Delusion of "taking over" the Republican Party as the deus ex machina for the current mess has been a horribly flawed contrivance since its inception. It's time we all had the same choice that Nevada voters had in their recent elections: "NONE OF THE ABOVE."

This is a very short-sighted and myopic perspective. The Tea Party should exercise as much influence as possible in the political arena. The tact of identifying issues then sifting through what the parties offer up to try to find someone who is the lesser of two evils is a losing proposition. Only by having input into the selection process does the Tea Party have the best opportunity to have candidates that truly reflect their concerns and values.

I guess you've made a couple of things easier to understand. First, your screenname "Lonesome Libertarian" is explained by your inability to see the fruitlessness of your perspective. Second, if you're truly into taking a lesson from history maybe you can explain where history has demonstrated that third party candidates or unaffiliated candidates have made any headway in changing the direction of this country. I listened to the three speak at the Denton Delegate Training. Here are my opinions/concerns about the three:
Adams has a long, proven history with Texas Eagle Forum as a solid Conservative. No question about it. The main concern about her is whether she is a good administrator and the fact that she gave large raises to the staff & director during these hard economic times. Good concerns that she needs to address. Also, for me, the strong probability that she voted for Perry. She wasn't asked.

Remember that this isn't about the issues as much as it is about who can lead the Party effectively. Cathie voted for Perry and even appeared on stage with him at the Perry/Palin Rally in Houston. I don't think the fact that she voted for Perry (or Steve voting for KBH) rules her (or him) out, but the inappropriate appearance does.

The minority of Tea Partiers who disdain anyone affiliated with a party need to realize they'll never elect anyone if a prerequisite is that the candidate has no party affiliation. The Tea Party will be a valueless waste of people's time and will completely lose the interest and participation of the voters if it insists on a splinter candidates who are big on ideas but who don't have the savvy to reclaim the platforms of a major party by standing on principle. Fracturing the vote into many little pieces on little slivers of principle only serves to guarantee victory to those who are organized against the Tea Party. It seems so legalistic and simplistic to think that if someone is affiliated with a major party that that person can not have personal values that mirror the Tea Party.
There are no words to describe Cathie's dedication to the conservative principles and the conservative Republican platform and to the grassroots. She has been there for over 25 years in the trenches as a champion for our traditional values, going toe-to-toe with legislators and even the President.

She has been there to fight back against the moderate/liberal Republicans in office, and in the Party. I say we need the younger voters, with their energy and enthusiasm. I suspect that they would also be good at recruiting each other, and I agree with the blog that stated they (the younger generation) has the most to lose. They are also the future of this party, and we should not leave them with the legacy of playing second fiddle in government at all levels. I say Steve should be given the chance to organize them, and reorganize as well as change the image of the Texas GOP.

When the people of Arizona came under HEAVY FIRE for their support of our nation's immigration laws, the people of Texas rose to Stand With Arizona.
For that, you have and fully deserve the sincere thanks of the people of Arizona. We lost count of how many Arizonans asked us to relay their heartfelt gratitude back to all the people of Texas who have been supporting them and continue to support them in this fight.
As we moved around the ballpark on Saturday night in Tempe, we were continually being surprised by the familiar faces of fellow Texans who traveled out to Arizona to show their support. Those of you who traveled out to volunteer deserve a special thanks.

The Stand With Arizona Rally simply would not have been possible without your help. Thanks to your help, the event was a HUGE success. According to estimates, the Stand With Arizona Rally on May 29th contributed between $800,000 and $1.4 million to the local Phoenix economy, owing to the money spent by the attendees over the course of the weekend. Wife and I are going to DC in August to Glenn Becks August 28th event at the Washington Monument & Lincoln Memorial. I am an adiment Tea Party Supporter and especially with the continus violation of Texas, New Mexico and Arizona Borders. There is absolutely NO reason to try to deal with the illegals in our country until the borders are completely closed. Stopping the illegals entering this country will go a very long way to solving one of our countries major problems. I wrote to the Austin City Mayor and City Council members and stating that I%u2019m ashamed of their position and felt that if anyone should side with Arizona, it should be Texas.
I then subsequently wrote to the Mayor and Council Members of San Antonio, Houston, Dallas, Fort Worth and Governor Perry and basically told them how I felt about Austin%u2019s position, copied the note I wrote to Austin which stated that we as Texans must make a stand and that James Bowie, Colonel Travis, Davy Crocket and the rest of the men that defended the Alamo would roll over in their graves if they found that we weren%u2019t supportive of Arizona%u2019s position.
Bottom line, I 100% support Arizona as both a Conservative and a Texan and feel that all Texans must support Arizona up to and including our Governor - without question!<

To the brave citizens of Arizona, I am a native West Texan & I am proud to be an American. I am acutely aware of the tremendous liabilities that surround this whole situation and pray that you will continue to fight for our constitutional rights. It is clear to me that the current administration has alternate views regarding illegals entering our country with no regard for our laws. These, obviously, have nothing to do with our safety, economy or overall well being. It is obvious to the greater majority of Americans that Obama is on a mission that will only benefit himself and will destroy our country, as we know it. My dad faught in WWII for our country and our constitution. I will not be silenced in this fight to keep our country safe. God speed to you in Arizona. May we never forget.
My husband and I are retired and travel full-time. We winter in the Dallas area so feel that the Dallas Tea Party is part of our family. We are so proud of each and every one of you and the work you are doing. Since we were staying in southern Utah last weekend we decided to "run down" to Tempe and Stand With Arizona. It was a wonderful experience! We walked into the stadium around noon and asked if they needed any help getting ready. They said, "Yes!" So we were able to meet some wonderful people from several different states AND take part in the Stand with Arizona Rally. We wish them continued success in making their voices heard. Congratulations to Governor Jan Brewer in being the first governor to take a strong stance in dealing with illegal immigration. We wish her much success in the future.
It saddened me to receive an invitation from the Dallas Tea Party to attend the "Red State" gathering being held this September in Austin. We made a commitment to stand with Arizona. Austin is publicly boycotting Arizona and the Dallas Tea Party wants to patronize Austin??? Anyone else see a problem with this? I agree. The Tea Party should have picked a Pro-AZ venue (city). But, I also was thinking that it would be a good idea to post a listing of all AZ-based companies (particularly the ones being boycotted directly) that we could all use to make our buying decisions. For instance, if I need pet supplies, I'll go to Petsmart instead of PetCo, since they're an AZ-based company.

I like this name "Lone Star Tea Party". It kinda captures the Texas theme. I sure hope we can get this country back in November. We need to help out those candidates in other states as well. We need to get a list built of those running against the Dems that voted for the bill and support their opponent.
If you watched Beck today, it seems that Obama, Andy Stern (SEIU) and others are attacking his show sponsors. I sensed this is a serious situation for FOX and GLenn. Whether you like Beck or not the right of free speech is the real threat. Suggestion...Why not show our support by a massive campaign to support those sponsors by buying as much of their products as we can and at the same time boycott GM, Chrysler, bailout banks, and other govt' and union controlled companies as we can. The bank bailout without oversight came from the Bush administration. You guys oppose health care reform when it can benefit all of you not just the 35 million Americans not presently covered. They were nothing more than a bunch of PUNKS shouting out about the oooooohhhh 911 TRUTHERS! On Thursday, an urgent, last-minute call went out to the nation : COME TO WASHINGTON. JOIN US ON CAPITOL HILL. HELP US STAND AGAINST SOCIALIZED MEDICINE.
When the call went out, those of us involved in spreading the word had no idea how many Americans would show up. We were hoping for a few thousand, but with the incredibly short notice, we really didn't know what to expect.
When we arrived on Capitol Hill on Saturday morning, a crowd of perhaps a few thousand had already gathered.
In the last hours before the rally, a steady stream of patriots marched in. By noon, THIRTY THOUSAND PATRIOTS had arrived on Capitol Hill to tell Washington, in no uncertain terms, that we the people WILL NOT BE BULLIED INTO SOCIALISM.

I don't understand. Do any of you really know what you are saying. If you receive any government benefits (social security, medicaid, medicare, veterans benefits, education, etc.) then you are a Socialist. We want our country back? From What? Do you want to go back to the original founding father's country. You know, the one where woman could not own property or vote. I'm sorry, I read the mission statement and do not know what you want, where you are going or where you want to be.

I'm in. I had the privilege, with about fifty other fellow Texas patriots, to be at the rally in Victory Park on Saturday, the 20th. We got the attention of many Stars fans who passed by on their way to the game at the AA Center. We also had two of the local networks cover us, and they each aired a spot on that night's news. What's next? Where is Jerry Jones, the Cowboys owner, on all this? I have an idea for a rally in his beautiful new stadium on the 4th of July, where we would put the Declaration of Independence up on that huge TV screen, and then we would all read it out loud together. Would Jerry Jones support that? Even more important, would he pay for it? Anybody think this idea has merit?
Of course he wouldn't support it if there's nothing in it for him. Jerry Jones is a snake, he's all about the bottom dollar, and he's already bilked the taxpayers to pay for that "beautiful new stadium", no matter if it's just a tax on hotels and rental cars. So no, nice idea, but you would have to find someone a little more concerned for this country and a little less about themselves.
We must Never, Ever, allow the thugs in Washington to continue to push this progressive junk down our throats. May He grant us the strength and endurance we'll need to take back our country. It may take months and, possibly, years to recover what we've lost.

I am in. I am running for State Representative in Grand Prairie & S. Irving against an incumbent whose voting record is liberal. My campaign slogan is Enough! I've had enough of high taxes, enough of excessive spending both at the state and federal level, enough of unfunded madates, and enough of career politicians who get in office and forget who put them there and why.
We are IN. If Washington can't be restrained, then maybe it's time for The Republic of Texas to rise again! We didn't win our independence from Mexico to become the pawns of Washington, D.C. or to be overrun by the very nation we defeated! Strenthened the borders; arrest the illegals; Texas for Texans!

I was born, brought up, and lived under communist regime. It was terrifying experience, but now I am terrified even more seeing lies, deceitfulness and contempt for American people expressed by American commies. Arm yourself with information and don't hesitate to talk to your neighbors. Don't argue with them, just give them the facts. You will soon get organized within your community if your neighbors see you set an example. People are afraid to talk politics. Make it OK and they will start paying attention.
There's got to be a better more effective way to get the attention of congressmen than sending faxes, e-mails and phone calls that drop into an ignored black hole. I have an idea that I'd like to propose.
By all means, give us your ideas! But don't think that the emails, calls, faxes and marches haven't mattered. We have turned votes, I'm sure. It is not going to go their way if we keep the pressure on and use our numbers to turn things around in November. We can NEVER go back to trusting legislators to do the right thing again. We will have to forever more, remain politically engaged!
I was on the steps of the AA center on Saturday showing my support. It was extremely cold and there were hundreds of Americans going to the STARS game. Not many Tea Partiers showed up. . . missed opportunity!

We went to the AA center Saturday morning. Thanks for keeping us informed. Both Sue & I are interested in helping. Not trying to make an excuse but I am attending college Tuesday & Thursday evenings & all day on Saturday. I own & operate a delivery service 4-5 days a week. Sue is a school teacher five days a week plus Tuesday & Wednesday after school & all day on Saturday works as a hair stylist. Sunday we attend church in the a.m. & we try to catch up on our sleep in the afternoon. So if you need something we will do our best to help out. Thanks again.
The Tea Party depends on everyone talking to their neighbors, friends and family. Arm yourselves with facts. Inspire and motivate others to pay attention to the candidates, work for the best we have to offer and help fund them and get elected. Then, make sure they get to the polls in November! Each person must do that which they are able to do in good conscience. Let the Holy Spirit be your guide. You will know in your heart what to do.
Not everybody "in" was able to leave small children to fly - or to get into a car with the small children (as we did for 9/12) and drive across the country (5 day drive) in just 2 days. We rallied locally.
